A Renovation Consultation
Are you thinking about renovating or adding on to your home? Maybe you want to create a home that is more functional and fulfilling to live in. B4&After can help you discover great design solutions that can really make a difference!
We will meet with you to discuss design ideas and sketch design solutions on the spot. We can answer your questions about probable cost and construction alternatives for various home improvement projects. Together, we can discuss everything from where to place an addition to simply improving the functionality and appearance of your home. Click here for an example of a past consultation.
A summary of the conclusion and copies of any sketches will be mailed to you within a week of the consultation. The consultation is a “stand alone” service” . You aren’t required or expected to retain us for the duration of your project.
Consultations usually last between two and three hours and cost $400 which includes the sessions’ conclusions.
Getting the Most from your Consultation
The following items will help us to be as efficient as possible during the consultation and allow you to get the most helpful recommendations:
Site plan or survey - This document, prepared by a surveyor, locates your house relative to property lines, driveway, and services. It is often included with closing documents.
Photos of the exterior - We frequently sketch on trace paper over photos to approximate what a change to the building will look like. Take photos of the front, rear, and sides of your home. 4x6 photos are OK, but you might want to go to a copy center and make copies enlarged to 8-1/2”x11”.
Building Restrictions (if applicable) - Many towns and subdivisions have restrictions that limit the materials, establish mandatory setbacks and heights, and require permits for construction. Look in your closing documents for these. If you aren’t sure, check with your real estate agent, neighborhood association, or town code officer.
Floor plans - A copy of your home’s plans is the best record, though many older homes don’t have these. If the original plans are unavailable, check your closing documents for a plan that may have been included in the appraisal or in the description of the property.
Your Idea File - To help us learn your style preferences, tear out pages from favorite home improvement magazines, or mark pages in books illustrating the “feel” you want. Place a post-it on each, noting what you like - or don’t like.
