Links we like

Here are some interesting websites on a variety of topics:

(Let me know if there is a link error and I’ll fix it)

Nikos, Chris and KenOne of my favorite design books is A Pattern Language by Christopher Alexander et al. 1977, Oxford University Press. The website is thought provoking and entertaining - you can even draw on it! Also see The Nature of Order - this is, in my opinion, one of the most important books ever written on the subject of architecture.

Sarah Susanka’s Not So Big House book draws much of its inspiration from Alexander’s Pattern Language. The website is interesting - check out the community boards.

Environmental Building News is the one of the best sources of information on energy and resource efficient building.

FHBthumb154pxTaunton Press publishes Fine Homebuilding and Fine Woodworking (and some other Fine books and magazines). Taunton has published my work in several books and in FH issue no. 109 pp.76-79.

This Old House is a great show that airs on PBS and HGTV. The website has some helpful information for designers, builders and homeowners.

If you want to find out more about the town I call home, Village Soup is the site in the know.

Daniel Will-Harris helped me with the logo for B4&After. He’s a great designer and his website is really fun and has tons of useful information.

My sister, Jen Foster, is an awesome musician and her website is very cool. My brother, Warren, is an awesome furniture designer and builder and his website is, well, it’s a work in progress.

Marcel’s wife Jill is an incredible artist and decorative painter. You can view her work and find out more about her on her website vallieredesign.com

My-Desk200pxI like to sketch and I have a sketch blog. I love to draw buildings but I also like to draw people and things around me. For me, sketching is a creative journey and a way that I can better understand things.
